Choosing a size in a Fruit of the Loom T-shirt, sweatshirt or hoodie is easy once you know two things: your chest measurement in cm and how the model is cut. This guide gives you the charts for adults and kids, a three-step way to measure yourself and practical advice on going up or down — whether you are buying one shirt or fifty for a team.
Fruit of the Loom follows a standard European chart. Adult chest in cm (approx.): XS 84–88, S 89–94, M 95–100, L 101–106, XL 107–112, 2XL 113–118, 3XL 119–124, with 4XL 125–130 and 5XL 131–136 on some models. T-shirts have a regular fit; sweatshirts and hoodies are cut slightly roomier for layering. Kids' sizes are by height: 104, 116, 128, 140, 152 and 164 cm. For a close fit go one size down, for layering one size up. Marmalade Co. stocks XS–3XL and kids 104–152.
If you already own a Fruit of the Loom garment that fits well, the fastest method is to lay it flat and compare its width and length with the tables below.
The classic tees — Valueweight T, Original T and Heavy Cotton T — share this chart and a regular, straight cut with a tubular body. The Iconic 150 T is slimmer through the body; consider a size up if you prefer room.
| Size | Chest (cm) | Width flat, approx. | Length, approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 84–88 | — | — |
| S | 89–94 | 48 | 69 |
| M | 95–100 | 52 | 71 |
| L | 101–106 | 56 | 73 |
| XL | 107–112 | 60 | 75 |
| 2XL | 113–118 | 64 | 77 |
| 3XL | 119–124 | 68 | 79 |
| 4XL | 125–130 | — | — |
| 5XL | 131–136 | — | — |
"Width flat" is measured armpit to armpit with the shirt lying flat; "length" from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem. Flat measurements are indicative and vary by ±1–2 cm between models and colours. Not every retailer carries 4XL and 5XL; Marmalade Co. stocks XS–3XL. Model-by-model details are in our Fruit of the Loom T-shirt guide.
The Classic Set-In Sweat (crewneck), Classic Hooded Sweat, Lightweight Hooded, Premium Hooded and the zip hoodie are all cut a little roomier than the tees, with the same chest ranges shifted slightly upwards. That extra room is intentional: a hoodie is meant to go over a T-shirt or long sleeve.
| Size | Chest (cm) | Width flat, approx. | Length, approx. |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 91–97 | 53 | 69 |
| M | 98–104 | 56 | 71 |
| L | 105–111 | 59 | 73 |
| XL | 112–118 | 63 | 75 |
| 2XL | 119–125 | 67 | 77 |
| 3XL | 126–132 | 71 | 79 |
Practical translation: if you are an M in the T-shirt, you are normally an M in the hoodie too — the roomier cut is already built in, so you do not need to size up for a normal layered fit. Size up only if you want an oversized, streetwear-style drape. Sweatpants follow the same S–3XL letters and, being sweat fabric, are forgiving between two sizes. See our hoodie guide for the differences between the models.
Marmalade Co. carries Fruit of the Loom in XS–3XL for adults and 104–152 for kids — price guarantee, €7 DHL shipping, delivery in 2–3 business days.
Find your size at Marmalade Co. →Children's garments are sized by height in cm, not by age. Measure the child against a wall without shoes and choose the size whose range includes that height. Age is shown only as a rough orientation.
| Size | Height (cm) | Age (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 104 | 98–104 | 3–4 years |
| 116 | 110–116 | 5–6 years |
| 128 | 122–128 | 7–8 years |
| 140 | 134–140 | 9–11 years |
| 152 | 146–152 | 12–13 years |
| 164 | 158–164 | 14–15 years |
Teenagers above 164 cm move into adult XS (chest 84–88 cm) or S. For kids' models, prices and group-order advice see our Fruit of the Loom kids' guide.
Neither, by European standards. The brand follows a conventional chart: T-shirts have a regular fit that is neither slim nor oversized, and sweats are cut a touch roomier. Compared with fashion brands that cut slim (many Iconic-style or retail tees), Fruit of the Loom classic tees feel slightly more generous; compared with Gildan's boxier US-style cut, they feel slightly trimmer. Our Fruit of the Loom vs Gildan comparison goes into that difference.
Ordering for a team, a class or a company is where guessing goes wrong. Instead of asking everyone for "S, M or L", collect chest measurements in cm and assign sizes from the chart — people are surprisingly bad at knowing their own size, and men in particular tend to under-report. Then:
Most Fruit of the Loom tees are 100 % cotton and can lose a few per cent in length on a hot first wash; sweats in 80 % cotton / 20 % polyester shrink less. To keep the fit:
Order the right size, treat the garment gently, and a Fruit of the Loom basic will fit the same way after fifty washes as it did on day one.

Sweatshirts and hoodies use slightly wider ranges (S 91–97, M 98–104, L 105–111). Kids are sized by height from 104 to 164 cm.
No. Fruit of the Loom follows a standard European chart with a regular fit on T-shirts and a slightly roomier cut on sweatshirts and hoodies. Only the Iconic 150 T is cut slimmer. If you want a close fit, take one size down; for layering or a relaxed look, take one size up; if between sizes, go up.
Wrap a tape measure horizontally around the widest part of your chest, under the armpits, snug but not tight. Compare the result in cm with the chart: for example 95–100 cm is a size M, 101–106 cm a size L. Alternatively lay a well-fitting shirt flat and measure its width armpit to armpit — an M is approx. 52 cm wide.
Usually not. The Classic Hooded Sweat and other sweats are already cut roomier than the T-shirts so that they fit over another layer, so your normal letter size works for a standard layered fit. Size up only if you want a deliberately oversized look or plan to wear it over thick workwear or a fleece.
Kids' garments are labelled by height in cm: 104 (approx. 3–4 years), 116 (5–6), 128 (7–8), 140 (9–11), 152 (12–13) and 164 (14–15). Measure the child without shoes and pick the size whose range covers that height; if they are near the top of a range, choose the next size to allow for growth.
A 100 % cotton tee can shrink a few per cent — mostly in length — if the first wash is hot or it is tumble dried on high. Washed at 30–40 °C and air dried, shrinkage is minimal. The 80/20 cotton-polyester sweats are more stable. If you are between sizes, choosing the larger one covers any shrinkage.
